Fiberglass Duct Restoration
Fiberglass Duct Board Restoration
Deteriorating duct board sheds fibres into the airstream. Restoration seals the interior surface instead of replacing the whole system.

A great many Florida homes were built with fiberglass duct board rather than metal or flex duct. It insulates well and it was cheap to fabricate, but its interior surface is exposed fiberglass, and after twenty or thirty years of air moving across it that surface degrades. The board begins shedding fibres into the airstream, it holds moisture and contamination in a way that a smooth metal surface does not, and cleaning it aggressively accelerates the damage.
Restoration is the middle path between doing nothing and tearing out an entire duct system. The interior surface is cleaned and then encapsulated with a sealant that bonds the loose fibres down and creates a smooth, cleanable barrier. It stops the shedding, restores a surface that can be maintained, and costs a fraction of full duct replacement. We will tell you honestly when a duct system is too far gone for restoration and needs replacing instead.
Signs duct board is deteriorating
- Fibrous dust or fine particles discharging from the registers
- Visible fraying or erosion of the interior duct surface
- Duct board that has been wet at any point
- Persistent odours that survive a standard duct cleaning
- Duct board over 20 years old with no prior treatment
What restoration involves
- Camera inspection of the interior duct surface before quoting
- Cleaning appropriate to a fiberglass surface — not aggressive brushing
- Encapsulating sealant applied to the interior surface
- Plenum and joint sealing where leakage is found
- An honest assessment where replacement is the better option

Is restoration as good as replacing the ducts?
It is not the same thing, and we will not claim it is. Restoration is the right answer for duct board that is deteriorating but structurally sound. Where the board has collapsed, been saturated, or lost integrity, replacement is the honest recommendation.
