Air Handler Upgrade & Replacement
Air Handler Upgrade & Replacement
The indoor half of the system — replaced properly, matched to the condenser, and sealed at the plenum.

The air handler holds the evaporator coil, the blower and — in most Florida installations — the electric heat strips. When it fails or corrodes through, replacing it alone is sometimes correct and sometimes a false economy, because an air handler must be matched to the outdoor condenser for the pair to hit their rated capacity and efficiency. Mismatched equipment will run, but it will not deliver what either component's label claims.
The work that determines whether a replacement performs happens at the connections: a plenum sealed properly rather than taped, a condensate pan trapped and pitched correctly with a working float switch, the coil matched and the line set cleaned or replaced, and the return sized to feed the blower without strangling it. Air handlers live in attics, closets and garages across Florida, and each of those locations has its own failure pattern — attic units in particular corrode from the outside in.
When the air handler is the problem
- A rusted-through condensate pan or visible corrosion on the cabinet
- A cracked or leaking evaporator coil losing refrigerant
- Repeated blower motor failures
- Water damage in the ceiling below an attic unit
- Replacing a condenser and needing a properly matched indoor unit
What's included
- Match verification against the existing or new condenser
- Old unit removal and disposal
- Sealed plenum transitions rather than taped joints
- Correctly trapped and pitched condensate with a new safety float switch
- Heat strip and electrical connection check
- Airflow, static pressure and temperature split verified after commissioning

Central Florida coverageAir Handler Upgrade & Replacement — common questions
Can I replace just the air handler?
Sometimes. It depends on the age, refrigerant type and rating of the outdoor unit. We will tell you honestly whether a standalone replacement will perform or whether you are buying a mismatch.
